Former Hockey Pro Patrick Dovigi owner of a Multibillion-Dollar Business bought Ahpo superyacht for US$362 million
In the magical summer of 2007, a young entrepreneur named Patrick Dovigi founded Green For Life with a $10 million investment from his supporters David Kassie and Barry Goldberg of Canaccord Genuity Group. Little did he know that this was just the beginning of an extraordinary entrepreneurial journey.
With exceptional business acumen, Patrick Dovigi quickly built an economic empire by establishing GFL Environmental, Inc., GFL Waste & Recycling Solutions Corp., and GFL Environmental, Inc. Leading these companies as President and CEO, Dovigi demonstrated his dedication not only to business but also to environmental and charitable causes. His passion for hockey led him to be involved in the sports world, directing various hockey teams, including the Edmonton Oilers and the Detroit Red Wings.
Thanks to his commitment, GFL exploded onto the international stage. In 2014, the company began expanding into maritime regions, and in 2017, it took the giant leap into the U.S. market, ensuring explosive growth. GFL even went public in 2020, granting Dovigi access to additional capital for further expansion. Today, GFL employs over 20,000 people, and Patrick Dovigi’s net worth is estimated at over $1 billion.
In 2023, a breathtaking announcement shook the maritime business world:
the imposing superyacht AHPO, built by the renowned Lürssen shipyard, was up for sale. This maritime masterpiece, with an initial value exceeding €330 million, was a dream for many, but only one could afford it.
And that fortunate buyer was Patrick Dovigi. The former NHL goaltender and Canadian magnate purchased AHPO for the staggering sum of €330 million, confirming himself as one of the most powerful and influential figures in the business and luxury world. In just a few months, the vessel was renamed “Lady Jorgia,” a name evoking elegance and prestige. Dovigi’s new gem caught everyone’s attention, thanks to its luxurious beauty and incredible features that make it truly one of a kind.
Beyond its four pools and a gym, Lady Jorgia boasts an extraordinary beach club with a spa, hammam, sauna, and a retractable sea terrace. The attention to detail was astonishing, thanks to the work of the renowned Italian design team Nuvolari-Lenard, who curated both the interiors and exteriors of the yacht. The owner’s two-level deck, along with four additional cabins for guests, make Lady Jorgia a floating residence of unparalleled luxury. An IMAX Dolby cinema, elegant lounges, and a grand piano complete the vision of paradise at sea.
The AHPO superyacht, built by Lürssen, was sold within just three months and renamed Lady Jorgia.
The sale negotiation of AHPO to Dovigi was internally conducted by Moran Yacht & Ship, solidifying his status as a business and maritime brokerage magnate. At 115 meters in length, initially known as Project Enzo at the German constructor Lürssen, and rechristened by its new owner as Lady Jorgia, the vessel took five years to complete before being delivered to its original owner, Michael Lee-Chin, a Jamaican-Canadian entrepreneur and investor. Lee-Chin is the founder and chairman of Portland Holdings Inc., a private investment firm with a diverse portfolio. He gained prominence as the founder of AIC Limited, a Canadian mutual fund company that ranks among the country’s most successful. Lee-Chin was previously the owner of the yacht Quattroelle, which he sold to Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed al Maktoum.
Despite his extraordinary wealth and success, Patrick Dovigi remains a humble and compassionate man. He continues to dedicate time and energy to support important environmental and charitable causes, demonstrating that true luxury lies in the ability to do good for others. In this way, the story of Patrick Dovigi and his magnificent superyacht Lady Jorgia intertwines, representing the triumph of commitment, determination, and passion for success. With his remarkable career and exemplary generosity, Patrick Dovigi has become a true inspiration for many, proving that dreams can come true with hard work, talent, and ambitious vision.
